This is the SUPERLIFT 4 Inch suspension lift kit for the 1980-1996 Ford F-150 2WD/4WD. With a SUPERLIFT suspension and more tire, your seventh generation Ford F-150 will have an awesome stance and more off-road ground clearance.
This SUPERLIFT system is designed for the 1980-1996 Ford F-150 2WD/4WD owners looking to gain more ground clearance, wheel travel flexibility and a straight-up stance. Our kit addresses all of your lift kit needs in terms of product quality, durability, craftsmanship, and price. It includes everything you need to lift your legendary Ford F-150.
1980 was the first time Ford used a new, longer style 2-piece front axle, coil springs and radius arms on their full size Ford F-150 2WD/4WD trucks. Ford called this version of their Independent Front Suspension (IFS) the Twin Traction Beam (TTB) for the 4WD. 2WD/4WD versions without differential axles were called Twin-I Beam. The new style Twin-I Beam axle is comprised of two longer beams that are mounted on pivots, with the tire at one end, and the pivot at the other. The pivots from both sides cross over center. The rear suspension remained a solid axle with leaf springs on both 4WD & 2WD models.
As the front ride height is raised, the tops of the tires lean outward creating a positive camber angle. With lifts over 2 inches, caster and camber angles must be addressed. In stock form, the radius arms are parallel with the frame. Once lifted, the radius arms become angled because the axle end moves downward and the frame end remains fixed in the factory mount. Castor correction is handled by two different methods from SUPERLIFT.
- Method 1: In the standard bracket kit, SUPERLIFT lowers the stock radius arm to frame mount with new drop-down brackets. You remove the factory mount and replace it with these heavy-duty SUPERLIFT mounting brackets.
- Method 2: Replace the factory radius arms with longer Superunner radius arms. These arms are eighteen (18) inches longer than stock. You remove the factory mount and re-install it farther back on the frame. These longer arms offer many benefits to off-roading performance (reinforced axle mount, enhanced wheel travel, decreases camber changes during the suspension travel cycle, and more).
Features:
- Camber correction is solved with new axle-to-crossmember lowering brackets. These strong, heavy-duty axle pivot brackets are constructed of 0.25 Inch steel plate. To precisely dial-in the camber angle, it may be necessary to replace stock eccentric camber bushings. Ford Dealers or your local alignment shop offers these bushings (usually available in set increments up to 2 degrees of change.)
- For the front, this kit includes axle-to-crossmember lowering brackets (axle pivot brackets) for correct camber angle. Radius arm to frame mount drop down brackets are included for caster correction. A drop pitman arm is included to reduce steering linkage angles. We revised this 1980-1996 Ford F-150 lift kit from the drawing board in West Monroe, Louisiana, using state of the art design tools and software. The majority of metal and components are manufactured (fabricated and/or CNC precision machined) at our design and manufacturing center in West Monroe, LA. We ensure that the optimum ride and handling performance is designed into every lift system.
- SUPERLIFT engineers develop these 4-inch front lift coil springs to give you the best ride and handling characteristics of available. They’re pre-set to reduce fatigue in the steel, minimize settling and guarantee a consistent ride height. Shot-peened to increase tensile strength and allow maximum wheel travel without sacrificing the life of the springs.
- For the rear, a 2.5 inch rear block comes complete with proven cast steel blocks, U-bolts, nuts, and washers.
- Included in this system is a set of four (4) Superlift hydraulic shocks absorbers. Superlift shock absorbers are designed to provide excellent ride quality, durability, and longevity. They feature 10-stage, velocity-sensitive valving for maximum control on or off-road without sacrificing a comfortable ride. Shock resistance is continually adjusted, depending on the terrain and vehicle speed.
- SUPERLIFT provides detailed instructions suitable for both do-it-yourselfers (DIY) or for installing dealers.
- Front: Coil springs (1 pair); drop axle pivot brackets (2); radius arm drop brackets (2); Supplied Hardware; drop pitman arm (1); SUPERLIFT Superlift Shocks (2).
- Rear: Rear block kit; 2.5 inch cast steel blocks (2); U-bolts (4); heavy-duty flat washers (8); U-bolt long nuts; Superlift Shocks (2).
NOTE: Optional extended length brake hoses recommended. Our front sway bar relocation kit is suggested if full suspension articulation is desired. The optional Superunner Steering System conversion is Highly Recommended for Optimal Steering Performance.
NOTE: Standard shock is behind axle. Auxiliary shock is in front of axle. If the vehicle is factory-equipped with auxiliary (dual) front shocks, also order quantity two (2) #87280 Superlift Shocks.
